It has been reported that a robbery took place off the coast of Eyl, Somalia. One dhow, boarded by armed men, seized three boats belonging to the dhow, each equipped with a 60 horsepower outboard engine. UPDATE: EUNAVFOR have confirmed that they provided assistance to the dhow. Following the reports of a suspected pirate attack, EUNAVFOR ATALANTA naval and air assets were tasked to the area and located the dhow and as these were seen approaching, the perpetrators escaped from the dhow close to the Somali coast. EUNAVFOR personnel boarded the dhow and confirmed that all twelve crew members were safe and unharmed, and that two small boats belonging to the dhow and personal belongings of the crew had been stolen. EUVANFOR have classified the incident as an "Armed robbery at sea". |
