The Master of a Marshall-Islands flagged tanker has reported being approached whilst underway in close proximity of Point Alpha of the IRTC. Five small craft each with up to five persons onboard, were spotted on Radar. Three craft were on the port beam, one craft on the port bow and the other craft was at the aft. The craft followed the vessel for almost thirty minutes with two of the craft coming to within less than 3nm. The crew mustered and the armed security team onboard displayed their weapons, which resulted in the craft leaving the area. No weapons or ladders were sighted onboard the small craft, but it was reported that the craft were displaying black flags. The vessel is continuing to its next port of call.
