It has been reported, that there has been a robbery on a Portugal-flagged bulk carrier while underway in the Phillip Channel, Singapore Strait. Crew sighted upto six perpetrators, one armed with a bladed weapon and one carrying a ''gun like'' object in the engine room. The Master reports all crew safe, uninjured and accounted for. The Master also reported through Singapore authorities that some generator parts were stolen. The vessel continues to her next port of call. UPDATE: IMB has released further information. Six perpetrators armed with a gun and long knives entered the engine room where two crew were tied up and taken hostage in the engine room workshop. One of the perpetrators stood watch over the crew as the other assailants stole spare parts before making their escape. One crew managed to free themselves before raising the alarm with the Captain and crew, a subsequent vessel search proved the departure of the perpetrators. After raising the alarm with the authorities, the vessel was escorted by Naval and Coastguard vessels safely to anchorage. |
