The UKMTO has reported a time late sighting of a small boat with armed persons onboard, operating in close proximity to a coastal freighter approximately 95 nm Northeast of Massawa, Eritrea (exact position not specified). UPDATE 1: Further information has been issued reporting that the small craft had identified themselves as Eritrean Navy. UPDATE 2: The JMIC have reported that the small boat approached two vessels in the same vicinity, a Tanzanian flagged Cargo Barge and a Honduras flagged Specialist Craft. Security aboard the Specialist Craft fired three warning shots, the small boat returned fire and identified themselves over VHF radio as Eritrean Navy. The crew of the Cargo Barge warned the small boat over the radio to stay back and advised that they were armed. The small craft then departed. All vessels and crew are reported safe.
