It has been reported that there is an ongoing incident in the Gulf of Aden whereby a Palau flagged cargo vessel has been struck by a projectile approximately 123 nm East Southeast of Aden. Initial reports indicate there is a fire onboard and one crew member has been reported injured. UPDATE 1: The UKMTO have received confirmation from the Company Security Officer that the vessel was struck by two projectiles. Clearwater have also been able to obtain information stating that the two projectiles hit the cargo vessel on the starboard side of the main deck and in a cargo bay above the waterline. The fire is reported to be in cargo bay 2. UPDATE 2: Further information has been received stating that the injured crew member on board has been medevacked for their injuries to be treated. UPDATE 3: The Company Security Officer has reported that at 1620 UTC the cargo ship was hit by a third projectile which has resulted in minor damage to the vessel, the fire on board is now under control, and that the vessel is underway. UPDATE 4: The UKMTO have reported that the vessel is proceeding to its next port of call, with no further incidents reported. UPDATE 5: The UKMTO have reported that at 1227 UTC on June 15th, the crew evacuated the cargo vessel, which is now abandoned and drifting, unlit in the vicinity of 11° 47.36 N 043° 37.12 E, 30NM northeast of Djibouti. The Master has also reported that the vessel is still on fire and sinking. UPDATE 6: The vessel has been towed outside of the threat area and is now heading to the next port of call.
