Clearwater has received reports that a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier has been hit by an Unmanned Surface Vessel whilst underway, approximately 67nm Southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen. The initial reports state that the bulk carrier has no power and the engines are not functioning, resulting in the vessel drifting. UPDATE 1: The UKMTO have confirmed that the vessel was struck in the stern by a craft described as white in colour and between 5-7 metres in length. UPDATE 2: Clearwater have received further confirmation that the bulk carrier is taking on water and that a crew member who was in the engine room at the time of the incident is currently unaccounted for. UPDATE 3: The UKMTO have received a further update from the Master to state that the vessel has been hit for a second time by an unknown airborne projectile. The vessel is still taking on water and is not under command of the crew. UPDATE 4: The UKMTO have received confirmation that military authorities have evacuated the vessel. The vessel has been abandoned and is currently drifting, reported as unlit in the vicinity of position of 14° 20.00 N, 041° 56.00 E. UPDATE 5: Clearwater have received further information confirming that the bulk carrier has sunk. |
