It has been reported that there has been an attack on a vessel approximately 195nm East of Aden, Yemen (exact position not specified). The authorities are currently investigating. UPDATE 1: The IMB have confirmed that a tanker was approached by a boat with six persons armed with guns onboard, with a ladder also being sighted. The perpetrators opened fire towards the vessel resulting in the armed security team onboard the tanker returning fire, which caused the perpetrators boat to catch on fire and the boarding attempt being aborted. UPDATE 2: EU NAVFOR have provided further information confirming that following the attack on the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker, one of the Operation Atalanta warships in the area was able to respond and apprehend the six suspected pirates due to the unsafe condition of their boat. Some of the perpetrators have received medical treatment from injuries sustained in the incident.
