The Master of a Liberia-flagged tanker reported being approached whilst underway approximately 89nm Southeast of Sao Tome. A fishing trawler was sighted 3nm from the vessel's port side and started approaching, with the closest point of approach being 0.9nm. The fishing trawler had a black hull and white bridge structure, with a small orange lifeboat on the starboard side and was not reporting or identifying on AIS. The tanker altered course and increased speed, which resulted in the trawler aborting the approach. No weapons or ladders were sighted onboard the trawler. The tanker is proceeding to the next port of call. |
