The UKMTO have been informed by a Company Security officer that a Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier has been boarded whilst underway approximately 600nm East of Mogadishu, Somalia. The Authorities are investigating. UPDATE 1: The IMB have confirmed that the bulk carrier was intercepted by several small boats. The SSAS was activated and the crew have retreated to the citadel. UPDATE 2: The UKMTO have provided further information from the Company Security Officer stating that multiple persons boarded the bulk carrier from one large and one small craft and have control of the vessel. Clearwater have also obtained further information, stating that Operation ATALANTA assets have established contact with the Master of the vessel. The Master has confirmed that there are twenty armed pirates onboard. UPDATE 3: Further information has been received that the bulk carrier is now proceeding at a speed of 8 knots and a course of 311° towards the Somali Coast. UPDATE 4: Clearwater have received further information that the bulk carrier remains under control of the pirates and is now positioned in 07° 22.00’ N 049° 42.00’ E, approximately 35nm South of Eyl, Somalia. UPDATE 5: Further information has been received stating that the ABDULLAH remains under pirate control and has been anchored at position 07° 23.00' N 049° 40.00' E approximately 36nm South of Eyl, Somalia. UPDATE 6: Information received states that the vessel is at position 07° 25' N 050° 49'E on a heading of 080, speed 12knots. The ship is now pirate free and underway to the next port of call. |
