It has been reported that a vessel has been attacked approximately 35nm South of Al Mukha, Yemen (exact location not specified). The authorities are currently investigating. UPDATE 1: The Master has confirmed an explosion has occurred in close proximity of the vessel which has resulted in some damage. The Master has also reported that all the crew are safe. UPDATE 2: Clearwater have received further information confirming that the vessel involved is a Belize-flagged bulk carrier and that no fires have been reported onboard. UPDATE 3: Further information has been received stating that the vessel has now sunk as a result of the damage caused and all of the crew are reported to be safe on three life rafts. UPDATE 4: Clearwater have received further clarification that the bulk carrier has not sunk at this time, the vessel was struck by a missile which resulted in the main engine room taking on water, the vessel is at risk of sinking. The twenty-four crew members and the armed security team that were onboard the bulk carrier, have been transferred from the life rafts to another commercial vessel that has provided assistance earlier this morning. UPDATE 5: UKMTO have received reports that the vessel has dragged anchor and new position is 13° 21.19 N, 042° 57.64 E. Vessel is down by the stern and the bows remain above the waterline. UPDATE 6: Fully confirmed information has been received stating the vessel has now sunk. |
