It has been reported that an incident has occurred on an Iranian-flagged fishing vessel whilst underway 90nm Northeast of Eyl, Somalia. Initial reports are stating that the fishing vessel has been hijacked by an armed group. It has not yet been confirmed if this is a piracy related incident. UPDATE 1: This incident is ongoing and it is reported that Somali Militia have demanded a $400,000 ransom. UPDATE 2: EU NAVFOR have confirmed that they have brought this incident to a successful resolution. Their action enabled the transfer of the fishing boat to the Somali police forces who then escorted the vessel to shore and take relevant action with the suspected pirates.
